Roma caput mundi, it's not just a saying
Rome has maintained its magical aura through the centuries and even today is one of the most dreamed cities in the world. It is the city with the largest number of churches, embassies and fountains.
It is the capital of two states, Italy and the Vatican, and houses the world’s largest ancient church: St Peter’s Basilica.
Living in Rome means embracing the millenary history of mankind, wherever you look you will find tangible evidence of it, while you are immersed in the contemporaneity of a bustling metropolis full of opportunities.
Let’s go to the market!
If you want to get drunk with real life, there is no better place than the local market and Rome has magnificent ones.
The Trionfale Market is considered the first ever in size in the city (it has 273 benches) and is among the largest in Italy and Europe too.
Born in the nineteenth century, it has been moved to a popular neighborhood that has turned into an elegant area and this makes
it extremely convenient and also quite sought after.
The corridors have different colors: green for fruits and vegetables, blue for fish, red for meat, but you can find rice and cereals, fresh pasta and cheese, spices and products for ethnic cuisine.
And more: clothes, bags, shoes, games for children… in short, a colorful and fascinating multiethnic show!
There are almost fifty markets to explore in Rome, the most famous?
Rionale Testaccio Market, New Esquilino Market (ex Piazza Vittorio), Trastevere Market, Rionale Nomentano Market, Pinciano Market, Garbatella Market of Via di Santa Galla, Flower and Ornamental Plants Market, Campo de’ Fiori Market, Ponte Milvio Market, Casilino Market (or Pigneto)…
And who does not know the flea market of Porta Portese?
It only opens on Sundays, but it is the most famous of all. It was sung by Claudio Baglioni and was the protagonist of unforgettable auteur films such as “Ladri di biciclette” and “Sciuscià” by Vittorio De Sica.
The Italy of the past years and the Italy of the new millennium, you can both find them here at the Porta Portese Market. With no doubt at all.
Where shall we stop for lunch?
Every neighborhood offers opportunities for all palates, make a wish and find out what’s in store for you!
From the refined Bistrot to the Antico Forno with local delicacies, from the Wine Bar to the Osteria that serves strictly Roman dishes: the cult of food for Italians knows no limits, you should have already known that.
Walking in Trastevere
You can find the true Roman soul here, in the streets of the neighborhood you can still enjoy the atmosphere that in the second half of the twentieth century animated the cultural and artistic life of the city.
A few steps away you can walk on the Tiber Island and Ponte Sisto (one of the oldest in Rome), and we bet you will be speechless in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere!
What about an aperitif?
If you want to stay a little longer in the Trastevere area you will find very inviting places: pizzas, omelettes, veggy proposals and craft beer… Or you can head to the Eur area and, after an aperitif, you can enjoy its wonderful park with artificial lake or the spectacular water choreographies of the Garden of Waterfalls.
